Buttermilk Eatery owner files for Chapter 11 to reorganize

The Chapter 11 petition, filed Aug. 31, lists more than $75,000 in assets and over $407,000 in debts, and the filing faces a creditor lawsuit seeking payment for alleged kitchen equipment.

Yahoo Finance reports that the owner of breakfast and brunch chain Buttermilk Eatery has filed for Chapter 11 protection to reorganize its business amid legal pressure.

The restaurant chain owner, Asani Restaurant Group LLC, filed its petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida on Aug. 31, listing over $75,000 in assets and over $407,000 in debts. The petition does not specify a reason for the filing, and a spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

Buttermilk Eatery, founded in January 2023, operates locations in North St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park, Fla., and had planned a third location in St. Petersburg’s Grand Central District in summer 2026. The outlet also notes the company has not commented on whether it will proceed with that plan.

According to Yahoo Finance, creditor MGM Investment Properties Inc. filed a lawsuit against the restaurant owner on Jan. 8, 2026, seeking payment for kitchen equipment it allegedly provided the debtor in November 2025.
