Range Rover launches its first electric SUV priced from £154,070
The electric SUV, reaching 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, will be built at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant after a year-long delay.
Range Rover has launched its first fully electric SUV, priced from £154,070, as the automaker moves away from fossil fuel powertrains. The company said the vehicle can accelerate to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and is due to be built at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant, where the marque has been based since 1970.
The delayed launch marks a milestone for Jaguar Land Rover, which is owned by India’s Tata Motors and headquartered in Coventry, UK. The outlet noted that Jaguar Land Rover reported falling profits earlier this year as it absorbed the costs of Donald Trump’s tariff wars and supply chain disruption after a cyber-attack last year.
Jaguar Land Rover said it provided extra training to 10,500 staff working on the project and that the car underwent testing equivalent to 38 trips around the world, more than any other Range Rover. The company also positioned the model as the start of “a new era” focused on enhanced refinement and capability.
Production at Solihull will be supported by the automaker’s propulsion manufacturing center in Wolverhampton, which makes battery packs and electric drive units. The source added that SUV size is often linked to higher pedestrian-related road death risks, even as an electric powertrain can reduce environmental impact compared with petrol and diesel models.
