CS abuse survivor sues xAI, alleging Grok generated illegal images
The complaint says xAI allegedly ingested child sexual abuse images into its datasets and that lax Grok safeguards earlier this year helped users create sexualized images from photos.
A child sexual abuse survivor has filed a lawsuit against xAI, alleging the company’s chatbot Grok used photos of her abuse to generate new illegal pornographic images depicting her, according to a Guardian Business report.
The complaint, filed last week in a US district court in California, alleges that xAI ignored industry-standard safeguarding methods, resulting in AI-generated child sexual abuse material appearing and spreading on X, formerly Twitter.
The filing also accuses xAI of both generating CSAM and ingesting child sexual abuse images depicting the plaintiff into the company’s datasets after new images were publicly posted.
In the report, xAI is described as denying Elon Musk was aware Grok ever produced “any naked underage images” in January, while the company later sued two users in late August who face criminal charges related to that conduct.
