Teledyne Space detector launches on Meteosat Third Generation Imager-2

The CIS111 detector is part of a four-satellite Meteosat Third Generation buildout, while Teledyne posted its strongest quarter in history and raised full-year non-GAAP EPS guidance to $24.45 to $24.65.

Teledyne Technologies showcased its CIS111 detector in a new European weather satellite launch, with the component built by the company’s Space Imaging unit riding an Ariane 6 rocket in French Guiana.

The detector launched aboard Meteosat Third Generation Imager-2, an instrument designed to help improve severe storm detection for European forecasters. It is the second of four Meteosat Third Generation Imager satellites planned for the constellation, after Meteosat-12, also known as MTG-I1, launched in December 2022.

The CIS111 sits inside the Flexible Combined Imager, a five-channel radiation-hardened sensor built with rhombus-shaped pixels sized up to 100 by 100 microns to sharpen resolution from geostationary orbit. The system is also designed to support round-the-clock lightning detection across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and nearby waters.

In related company news, Teledyne reported second-quarter net sales up 9.8% to $1,662.5 million, and non-GAAP diluted EPS rose 20.8% to $6.28. Digital Imaging, the segment that includes infrared detectors and space sensors, led with sales up 12.7% and operating income up 42.3%, and management raised its full-year non-GAAP earnings outlook to $24.45 to $24.65 per share, according to Yahoo Finance.
