Jaguar Land Rover confirms 4,000 job cuts over two years

The company said the plan targets £1.7bn in annual savings and is framed as a cost-control program ahead of launching five new models.

Jaguar Land Rover confirmed it will cut 4,000 jobs over the next two years, and UK business secretary Jonathan Reynolds said the company does not warrant public money support, according to Guardian Business.

The outlet said JLR positions the layoffs as a competitive, cost-cutting effort rather than a Volkswagen-like existential crisis, noting the firm has faced a difficult period driven by factors including Trump tariffs, China luxury taxes, inflation in raw-material costs, and a cyber-attack.

Guardian Business added that JLR expects the program to deliver £1.7bn worth of annual savings, with management also aiming to improve cash performance by moving toward 300,000 units sold after earlier reference points following the sale of 350,000 units.

The article also pointed out that JLR reported it has 44,000 employees globally and 34,000 in the UK, and that the cuts will be heavily skewed toward what the company calls “salaried and management” roles, as it prepares to launch five new models.
