Bruker says fusion supplier deal comes as BEST revenue rises

Bruker reported second-quarter BEST revenue of $74.2 million, up 11.9% year over year, alongside margin and non-GAAP EPS growth.

Bruker (NASDAQ: BRKR) said its energy and supercon technologies unit, Bruker Energy & Supercon Technologies, struck a supply collaboration with Luvata Materials & Solutions to scale up production of RRP superconductors for magnetic confinement fusion. The announcement comes as governments and developers across Europe, South Korea, and elsewhere push toward fusion demonstration plants, and it follows signs of stabilization in Bruker's core scientific instruments business, according to Yahoo Finance.

The article says Bruker's BEST and Luvata previously supplied superconducting materials and expertise to ITER and the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator. It adds that RRP superconductors are designed to withstand field strengths between 12 and 20 Tesla, and the technology has been used in CERN's Large Hadron Collider and in ultra-high field NMR magnets, the outlet reported.

Bruker said the segment is already delivering results, with second-quarter BEST revenue rising 11.9% year over year to $74.2 million. Yahoo Finance also cited organic growth of 8.9% net of intercompany eliminations, first-half BEST revenue up 12.3% to $141 million, and non-GAAP operating margin expanding to 14.1% from 9.0% a year earlier.

On the profitability line, Bruker reported non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of $0.49, up from $0.32, and management kept its full-year non-GAAP EPS growth target of 15% to 17% intact. The article also noted that GAAP results diverged sharply, with second-quarter GAAP operating results swinging to a $65.3 million loss versus $11.9 million of GAAP operating income a year earlier, including a $134.9 million non-cash goodwill charge, per Yahoo Finance.
