Rokos Capital Management founder plans move tax residency to Greece
The macro hedge fund, which manages about $22bn, is also expected to open an Athens office as part of the relocation.
Rokos Capital Management founder Chris Rokos is preparing to move his tax residency from the UK to Greece, according to a report cited by Hedgeweek. The plan also involves establishing an office in Athens, and the firm reportedly declined to comment.
Rokos manages a macro-focused hedge fund with roughly $22bn under management, and the relocation is framed as part of growing competition between European jurisdictions to attract wealthy hedge fund executives and financial professionals.
The report points to Greece’s tax incentives, including a regime under which qualifying foreign residents can pay a flat annual tax of €100,000 on overseas income. It also notes that the UK has faced scrutiny from some wealthy investors after abolishing its non-domiciled tax regime and adding measures affecting wealth, inheritance, capital gains, and private equity.
For context, the report says Rokos ranked third on the Sunday Times list of the UK’s biggest taxpayers, with a reported tax bill of £330m. It adds that Greece offers a 15-year regime for qualifying high-net-worth individuals, while Italy has a similar 15-year program with an increased €300,000 annual flat tax on foreign-source income.
