Apple set to unveil a folding iPhone as CEO John Ternus takes center stage
The companys product event, titled Surprise and Shine, is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. Pacific on Apple campus in Cupertino.
Apple is expected to unveil its first folding iPhone during its annual fall product event, a potential step change for the iPhone since the original launch in 2007. The new model is rumored to open and close like a passport, effectively expanding screen size.
The event, titled “Surprise and Shine,” begins at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time on Apple’s campus in Cupertino, California, and will be a major test for newly appointed CEO John Ternus. Ternus assumed the role on 1 September, following a leadership change that comes as Apple prepares for its biggest iPhone shift in years, according to the Guardian Business.
Reporting also indicates the folding iPhone could be priced above $2,000, higher than some existing foldable rivals, such as a $1,899 Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The phone is rumored to be about 5.5 inches when closed and 7.8 inches when open, and it is not expected to include Face ID, instead offering Touch ID due to design constraints.
Apple is also expected to announce additional iPhone models, including new iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max versions, along with other product updates over the coming months. Even so, foldable phones are described as only a small portion of overall mobile device sales, with demand for standard iPhones remaining strong based on the companys recent earnings, according to the Guardian Business.
