Euro area sentiment falls in September while inflation expectations rise
The survey showed economic sentiment at 97.9 versus 99.0 expected, while consumer inflation expectations climbed to 35.2 from 33.0.
Forexlive reports euro area survey data for September showed economic sentiment slipping to 97.9, below the 99.0 forecast and under the long term average of 100.
The same readings indicated industrial sentiment improved to -3.8 from -5.0 previously, while services sentiment edged up to 6.1, though it still came in under the 6.5 expected level.
Separate components of the report highlighted a shift in price outlooks, with consumer inflation expectations rising to 35.2 from 33.0, and selling price expectations increasing to 20.3 from 16.9.
The outlet said the mix leaves the European Central Bank facing a less comfortable picture, with confidence still struggling while price pressures look more concerning in survey expectations.
