UK vaping tax to add £2.20 per 10ml of e-liquid
The duty is set at £2.20 per 10ml and applies to all vaping products, including those without nicotine.
A new UK Vaping Product Duty will take effect, raising the cost of vaping products as part of efforts to make them less appealing to children and young people, BBC Business reports.
The duty is set at £2.20 per 10ml of e-liquid, and it applies to all vaping products regardless of whether they contain nicotine. Sellers will have six months to sell old stock at the pre-duty price, which may delay immediate retail price increases.
HMRC said the policy aims to reduce vaping appeal as more evidence emerges about health impacts, particularly for young people. The BBC also reports that the vaping industry lobbied against the tax, arguing that affordable vapes can help people quit smoking.
Alongside the vaping duty, tobacco rates were raised by £2.20 per 100 cigarettes or 50g of tobacco. HMRC said the change maintains a financial incentive for smokers to switch to vaping.
