Tesco rolls out paid safe leave for domestic abuse victims
The retailer will offer up to three days of paid leave that staff can use flexibly for actions like court hearings and securing emergency accommodation.
Tesco has introduced a paid “safe leave” policy for employees who are victims of domestic abuse, providing dedicated time to access support and take steps to improve their safety.
The UK retailer, which employs 300,000 people, will offer up to three days of paid leave that can be used flexibly for activities such as attending court hearings, arranging emergency accommodation, changing locks, securing childcare, or separating finances.
Tesco says managers across the business have been trained to spot signs of domestic abuse, support affected employees, and refer them to specialist services, and that the company will not require formal evidence to access the leave.
The policy was developed in partnership with the shopworkers’ union Usdaw, according to the Guardian Business.
