Alphabet inks long-term power deals tied to Constellation nuclear uprates
The deals call for upgrading 11 already operating reactors, providing about 3,590 megawatts of power across PJM Interconnection.
Constellation Energy shares jumped Tuesday, Oct. 6, after Alphabet's Google signed two long-term power deals with the nuclear operator.
According to MarketBeat Ratings, Google agreed to a 20-year contract for 890 megawatts of new nuclear capacity, plus a separate 15-year deal for 2,700 megawatts sourced from Constellation's existing plants.
The combined agreements total about 3,590 megawatts in PJM Interconnection, the largest U.S. power grid.
MarketBeat Ratings said the additional power would come from upgrading 11 reactors already running in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, rather than building new ones.
