Jaguar electric Type 01 seen as make-or-break for the brand
The Type 01 is positioned as critical as Jaguar Land Rover faces job cuts and pressure from Chinese competition, US tariffs, and the shift to electric vehicles.
Jaguar's new electric car, the Type 01, is being described as make-or-break for the brand, with University of Birmingham business economics professor David Bailey calling the launch pivotal for jobs and investment.
Bailey pointed to a broader “perfect storm” facing Jaguar Land Rover, including mixed reactions to the Type 01 design, amid struggles linked to a cyber attack last year and mounting competition.
BBC Business reports that Jaguar Land Rover is cutting 4,000 jobs, citing Chinese competition, US tariffs, and the industry transition to electric vehicles.
Bailey said the luxury electric car market is still in its infancy, and that Jaguar is positioned near the front of that shift. Jaguar's Type 01 has a minimum cost of £130,000 in the UK, and $13 in the US, according to the report.
