ABF completes acquisition of Hovis Group and forms Hovis Bakeries
ABF said the Hovis unit will be combined with Allied Bakeries to create a UK bread business aimed at returning to growth.
Associated British Foods has completed its acquisition of Hovis Group from Endless LLP, bringing the bakery business into ABF’s fold. Financial terms were not disclosed. With the deal closing, Hovis will be combined with Allied Bakeries, the UK bakery business of ABF, and the combined operation will trade as Hovis Bakeries under the brand line “Nourishing the Nation,” ABF said.
ABF framed the acquisition as a step toward delivering a profitable UK bread business. The company said combining its scale and capabilities with targeted investment into new product categories is intended to drive growth, expand consumer choice, and create value for shareholders.
The Competition and Markets Authority launched an investigation into the merger on Dec. 19 after ABF first announced its intent to buy Hovis in mid-August 2025. Following a second investigation earlier this year, the CMA said that if the merger did not proceed, ABF was likely to exit the market entirely in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and it ultimately cleared the deal on June 16.
