Marc Andreessen to co-lead Fed task force on AI and jobs

The Federal Reserve said Andreessen will work alongside an economics professor on leave at Anthropic and Microsoft executive Asha Sharma as part of a new five-task-force review under Chair Kevin Warsh.

The Federal Reserve named Marc Andreessen, co-founder of Andreessen Horowitz, to help co-lead a new task force focused on how artificial intelligence and other technologies could affect productivity and jobs, according to Cointelegraph.

Andreessen will serve on the Fed’s Productivity and Jobs task force alongside Charles I. Jones, a Stanford University economics professor currently on leave at Anthropic, and Asha Sharma, Microsoft’s executive vice president and Xbox CEO. The Fed said the group will assess the employment and productivity effects of general-purpose technologies such as AI to inform policymaking.

Cointelegraph reports the Productivity and Jobs task force is one of five task forces launched under new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, with the other groups covering policy communication, balance sheet policy, data quality, and inflation frameworks.

Andreessen Horowitz is a major backer of crypto and AI startups, the outlet noted, and the piece also highlighted Andreessen’s ties to Warsh dating back to Stanford in the early 1990s.
