Xbox CEO Asha Sharma joins Fed AI jobs task force
The appointment follows Xbox’s plan to cut about 3,200 roles through FY27 as it restructures, with 1,600 eliminations starting first.
Decrypt reports the Federal Reserve has named Xbox CEO Asha Sharma to its Productivity and Jobs task force, which will study how general purpose technologies such as artificial intelligence may affect jobs and productivity.
Sharma will join Marc Andreessen and Stanford economist Charles I. Jones on the group, and Decrypt says the task force is part of the Fed’s broader effort to inform monetary policy decisions. The Fed said the five task forces will also review areas including Fed communications, balance sheet policy, economic data, and inflation frameworks.
According to Decrypt, the move comes shortly after Xbox announced the largest restructuring in its history, including plans to reduce the division’s workforce by approximately 3,200 employees through FY27.
The article says the cuts begin with 1,600 role eliminations, and four studios will move out of Xbox under new management, as Sharma cited lower margins, a smaller Gen 9 console install base, and higher costs as part of the business problems.
