Hong Kong issues warning for heavy rain and squally thunderstorms
The Hong Kong Observatory expects the low-pressure trough bringing storms to move closer to southern China’s coast in the coming days, with Tuesday and Wednesday tipped for significant rainfall.
Hong Kong’s observatory has warned residents to brace for heavy showers and squally thunderstorms over the coming week, while noting uncertainty over whether the storm system will develop into a tropical cyclone, according to SCMP Economy.
A spokesman for the Hong Kong Observatory said convective clouds linked to a broad low-pressure trough are affecting the central South China Sea, and are expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Tuesday, conditions are forecast to be mainly cloudy with occasional showers and a few squally thunderstorms, with temperatures expected to remain between 26 and 30 degrees Celsius, or 78 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and a high probability of significant rainfall.
On Wednesday, the forecast calls for heavier showers in some areas, with cloudy conditions and squally thunderstorms, with temperatures again expected to range from 26 to 30 degrees Celsius.
