Five Guys plans first Beijing locations as US chains push deeper into China
The burger chain will open three Beijing sites in shopping centers next month, building on its 2021 Shanghai entry as Western fast food demand grows in China.
American burger chain Five Guys will open its first Beijing store next month, expanding beyond its Shanghai outlet that began in 2021, according to SCMP Economy.
The company plans to launch three Beijing locations at popular shopping centers targeting younger consumers, with site hoardings indicating openings are imminent.
SCMP Economy notes that US fast-food brands including Wendy’s, Chili’s, Texas Chicken, and Popeyes are also ramping up in China, aiming to tap the world’s second-largest consumer market as growth prospects look tighter in the United States.
Analysts cited by SCMP Economy said some chains are looking to China to offset saturation at home, and highlighted franchising as a way to reduce risk while competition remains intense, with demand persisting in specific niches.
