Analysts say US tariff probes are unlikely to disrupt Trump-Xi meeting
China said it is strongly dissatisfied with the probes and warned of “necessary measures,” despite expectations that the September meeting can proceed.
The US tariff investigations targeting China and other trading partners are unlikely to meaningfully derail bilateral ties or a planned September meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, analysts said Monday, according to SCMP Economy.
Analysts pointed to the idea that China is only one part of a broader set of countries involved in the probes, suggesting the diplomatic impact may be limited.
China said it is strongly dissatisfied with the investigations and warned it may take necessary measures. The Chinese embassy in Washington said the US is abusing the Section 301 process by prioritizing domestic law over international rules.
The dispute underscores ongoing tariff-related friction ahead of the planned leader-to-leader engagement in September.
