US June federal budget deficit was $120 billion

The June result followed a May deficit of $239 billion, and it brings the year to date deficit to $1.367 trillion versus $1.337 trillion a year earlier.

The US federal budget deficit narrowed in June to $120 billion, versus an expected $138 billion, according to Forexlive.

The prior month, May, posted a deficit of $239 billion, while June of the prior year ended in a surplus of $108 billion.

Year to date, the deficit totals $1.367 trillion, compared with $1.337 trillion at the same point a year earlier.

Forexlive said June customs duties were negative $25.6 billion due to refunds, noting that those refunds can make the deficit look worse than the underlying trend, while also saying tariffs have not improved the overall picture.
