US existing home sales rise to 3.99 million in September

The September report showed median prices fell across all four regions, with the national median down 2.4% from August to $417,500.

US existing home sales increased in September to a 3.99 million annualized rate, topping the 3.95 million estimate, according to Forexlive.

The prior month’s pace was 3.98 million, and September sales rose 1.5% month over month, the outlet said. By region, sales increased in the South and West, were unchanged in the Midwest, and declined in the Northeast.

Forexlive also reported that year over year, sales declined in all four regions. Longer selling times and higher inventory, the outlet said, are giving buyers more negotiating power.

Median existing-home prices fell in all four regions in September. The national median was $417,500, down 2.4% from August, while regional medians ranged from $329,600 in the Midwest to $613,600 in the West.
