Bitcoin wallet moves 2,931 BTC for first time since 2018

CryptoSlate said the 2,931 BTC transfer to an unlabeled receiving address has not shown any outgoing transactions, leaving the purpose unclear.

A Bitcoin holder moved 2,931 BTC, worth about $188 million, for the first time since October 2018, according to CryptoSlate. The coins originated from an address that had held the balance since 2018, when Bitcoin traded near $6,500, and the position later grew nearly tenfold in dollar value as the top crypto reached around $64,000.

CryptoSlate reported that about nine hours after the initial move, the receiving address forwarded the entire 2,931 BTC balance to a second destination in a separate transaction. As of press time, the second address still held the full amount and had recorded no outgoing transactions, while Arkham had not attributed the new destination to an exchange, custodian, or other identified entity.

The outlet noted that blockchain transaction patterns like this can align with wallet migration or custody reorganization, but the records cannot confirm the holder’s identity, motive, or whether the coins remain under their control. CryptoSlate also said an unlabeled address does not necessarily mean the coins avoided an exchange or broker, since attribution has blind spots and some custody wallets appear without labels.

CryptoSlate added that additional transfers to exchange-linked addresses would strengthen the possibility that the holder intends to sell, though a deposit would only indicate the coins became available for trading, not that a sale occurred. It also highlighted another scenario where a holder moves BTC into an identified lender or collateral platform, which could keep the coins economically active without necessarily adding them to spot market supply.
