S&P 500 price and earnings exceed historical norms, strategist warns

The strategist said the S&P 500 has not seen price and earnings both run that far above trend since 1950, raising concern that the bull run could be nearing an end.

MarketWatch reports that a strategist is warning the current stock-market bull run may be approaching its limits, pointing to how far the S&P 500’s price and earnings are positioned versus long-term history.

According to the outlet, the strategist said the S&P 500 is at an extreme that has not been seen since 1950, with both valuation and earnings expectations running well above the historical trend at the same time.

The concern, as framed by MarketWatch, is that stretched levels in both price and earnings could leave the market more vulnerable going forward.
