Sanctioning Russia Act of 2026 targets Russia’s oil exports and shadow fleet
The revised bill unveiled by a bipartisan group of US senators aims to squeeze Moscow’s war finances, and has gained momentum after the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, one of its chief architects.
OilPrice reports that a bipartisan group of US senators introduced the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2026 on July 14, unveiling a revised package of sanctions and tariffs targeting Russia’s oil exports and what it describes as a shadow fleet.
The legislation is designed to squeeze Moscow’s war finances while also working around concerns that had stalled earlier versions of the bill.
OilPrice says the bill has attracted more than 26 bipartisan co-sponsors, with supporters expecting the number to grow quickly.
The revised effort has taken on added political significance after the sudden death of Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, one of the bill’s chief architects, over the weekend, according to OilPrice.
