BitPay gets Dutch MiCA license to expand crypto and stablecoin payments

The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets approved BitPay as a crypto-asset service provider, enabling it to operate across EU member states under the MiCA framework and broaden its regional payments offering.

Cointelegraph reports that BitPay said it received approval from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets to operate as a crypto-asset service provider under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework. The license allows BitPay to operate in European Union member states under MiCA.

BitPay said the Dutch CASP approval would let it expand its services in the region, including crypto payments and stablecoin payments. The company also positioned Europe as a key market for future payments growth.

Cointelegraph notes the timing aligns with a July 1 requirement under MiCA, which brings crypto-related service providers under regulation. It added that some major crypto companies attempted MiCA licensing ahead of the deadline, while others, including Binance, reportedly abandoned earlier efforts with EU regulators.

The outlet also pointed to other recent licensing activity, including Ripple securing a CASP license with Luxembourg’s financial regulator, as more firms seek approvals under MiCA.
