Trump teleprompter operator suspended amid Kalshi trading probe

The operator, identified by two sources as Gabriel Perez, is under federal investigation over potential insider trading tied to prediction market activity, which Kalshi referred to the CFTC.

A teleprompter operator for Donald Trump was suspended after the White House said it was investigating allegations that he placed bets on a prediction market tied to the content of the US president’s speeches, according to SCMP Economy, citing statements from the White House.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the employee was put on unpaid administrative leave by presidential order and later added he would no longer be working at the White House.

SCMP Economy also reported that Gabriel Perez is under investigation by federal regulators for potential insider trading on prediction market platform Kalshi. The outlet said two sources familiar with the matter described that Kalshi identified suspicious trading activity through its customer onboarding and market surveillance processes and referred the issue to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Kalshi said its surveillance team flagged and referred the trades to the CFTC, and that it has been assisting regulators with evidence collected through an exchange investigation, according to the SCMP Economy account. The report added that Perez is fully cooperating with the CFTC, and that the sources requested anonymity because the matter is confidential.
