Airbnb CEO regains hacked X account after tokenization posts
The removed thread discussed tokenizing assets like buildings and bonds, but contained no wallet, token address, or investment links.
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said his X account was hacked, and the attacker used the platform to post a thread promoting tokenized real-world assets. CoinDesk reports that the posts were described as heavily AI-assisted and have since been deleted.
Chesky said the thread argued tokenization could make assets such as buildings, bonds, and funds easier to divide, trade, and settle, while also referencing Robinhood’s push into tokenized assets.
According to CoinDesk, the posts did not include a token sale, wallet details, blockchain addresses, or links, making the compromise less obvious than a typical crypto account takeover.
Chesky later said he regained control of his account, and Airbnb reported the incident to X, which secured the profile. CoinDesk also notes it is unclear how the attacker gained access or who was responsible.
