Cardano plans handover of core blockchain components to outside teams

The control transfer begins in August and runs into 2027, covering the Haskell node, Plutus, Daedalus and Hydra.

CoinDesk reports that Cardano developer Input Output will begin handing control of key blockchain components to external specialist teams starting in August as part of a multi year decentralization push.

The handover includes responsibilities for the Cardano Haskell node, the Plutus smart contract platform, the Daedalus wallet, Hydra scaling technology and developer relations. Independent teams named by Input Output include Se7en Labs, and Teragone, which leads development of Mithril, a stake based signature protocol for the Cardano blockchain.

Input Output said the shift also involves maintaining at least three Cardano implementations written in Haskell, Rust and Go, under community oversight and formal specifications. Member organizations including Intersect and Pragma will oversee those specifications, with development subject to community review and voting.

The restructuring comes as Cardano faces weak network activity and a steep decline in the ADA token price, according to CoinDesk, with founder Charles Hoskinson describing the changes as necessary growing pains on the way to full decentralization. Input Output said the handover will begin in August and continue into 2027.
