Consensys terminates access after North Korea-linked developer work
Consensys said it confirmed no misappropriation of assets or data, no malicious code, and no user safety or security impact, but it will reassess outsourcing practices.
Consensys suspended product releases and launched an investigation after it was determined that a software developer it hired under an alias had ties to North Korea, according to Cointelegraph.
The blockchain company said the developer, introduced through a “reputable third-party service provider,” was not hired as a Consensys employee. Consensys general counsel Matt Corva said the firm discovered the threat quickly, followed its security protocols, and terminated any access.
Corva added that the investigation confirmed there was no misappropriation of assets or data, no malicious code deployed, and no impact to user safety and security.
Cointelegraph reports the incident fits a broader pattern in which North Korean hacking groups target digital asset companies by sending fake job offers to developers to gain access to systems and code. Consensys said it will reevaluate its practices for outsourcing engineering and development work.
