Proposed CLARITY ethics plan would require Trump to divest crypto

The addendum would reportedly let him defer capital gains taxes on required crypto divestitures, potentially saving him millions.

A bipartisan CLARITY ethics proposal being considered for US President Donald Trump would reportedly require him to divest from crypto-related businesses, according to Bloomberg as cited by Cointelegraph.

The plan also reportedly includes a provision allowing Trump to defer capital gains taxes on any required divestitures, a setup that could translate into tax savings in the millions, while Democratic concerns over crypto conflicts remain a central hurdle for passing a crypto market-structure bill.

Cointelegraph said it reached out to the White House for comment but did not receive an immediate response. The article also notes that Trump’s 2025 annual financial disclosure, released in late June, showed $1.4 billion in income from crypto-related ventures and $197 from selling an equity interest in a stablecoin venture.

Separately, Cointelegraph points to disclosures on World Liberty’s website, saying an entity affiliated with Trump and certain family members, DT Marks DEFI LLC, owns approximately 38% of the equity interests in World Liberty’s parent company.
