Santam Re appoints Izabela Stofberg as Chief Underwriting Officer

Stofberg, who has been with Santam since 2019, moves into the CUO role after serving as Cluster Market Head for Europe, Turkey and Partnerships.

Santam Re, the reinsurance division of South African insurer Santam, has appointed Izabela Stofberg as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO). The company said the new role is part of its ongoing focus on strengthening underwriting expertise and its reinsurance capabilities.

Stofberg has been with Santam since 2019, most recently serving as Cluster Market Head for Europe, Turkey and Partnerships. Before that, she worked as Territorial Head of Reinsurance (Treaty) for Central and Eastern Europe and Turkey, managing treaty reinsurance activities across those markets.

Her previous experience includes working at Everest Reinsurance Company as an Engineering and Construction Underwriter, and earlier, spending more than eight years at Willis Re, where she progressed to Divisional Director and worked within the global engineering treaty team.

Santam Re said the appointment reflects continued investment in leadership and underwriting capability to support clients and partners across its reinsurance operations, according to the company statement.
