Chariot Re completes first retrocession covering Japanese liabilities
The retrocession is effective 30 September 2026 and covers about $1.6 billion in account value tied to Japanese US dollar-denominated whole life and annuity policies.
Chariot Reinsurance, Ltd. has completed its first reinsurance transaction covering Japanese liabilities, marking the reinsurer’s fourth deal since launching in July 2025, according to Reinsurance News.
The transaction takes effect 30 September 2026, when Chariot Re entered into a retrocession agreement with MetLife Reinsurance Company of Hamilton Ltd., a Bermuda-based MetLife affiliate.
Chariot Re said the deal covers approximately $1.6 billion in account value associated with a portfolio of Japanese US dollar-denominated whole life and annuity policies reinsured by MetLife Reinsurance Company of Hamilton Ltd.
In a statement, MetLife’s investment management leadership said the Japan-included transaction reflects the platform scaling, and emphasized that third-party capital remains a key lever for MetLife.
