US housing starts rise in June after prior-month revision
June housing starts increased to 1.427 million, up from the prior month’s revised 1.199 million, while building permits posted 1.367 million.
US housing starts for June came in at 1.427 million, beating the 1.310 million estimate, according to Forexlive.
The prior month’s housing starts were revised up to 1.199 million from 1.177 million, and June’s reading reflected a 19.0% increase versus -15.2% in the prior month.
Forexlive also cited building permits at 1.367 million for June, versus the 1.400 million estimate, after the prior-month figure was 1.410 million.
The outlet linked the housing affordability and supply constraints to rate-sensitive homeowner behavior and inventory levels, noting that many potential sellers remain in their homes due to low refinance rates and capital gains tax considerations.
