China floods in Guangxi displace nearly 400,000 amid deadly dam damage
Cumulative rainfall from July 3 to 6 reached 400 mm to 600 mm in Guangxi’s south, with Qinzhou receiving over 800 mm, according to the report.
Millions of people have been displaced by severe flooding in China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, where torrential rains and dam collapses have reportedly killed 39 people and affected nearly 400,000 residents, the SCMP Economy reports.
The outlet cites rainfall totals from July 3 to 6 across Guangxi’s southern region of 400 mm to 600 mm, with Qinzhou city receiving more than 800 mm of precipitation.
On July 6, a 30-year-old man surnamed Xie reportedly swam for three hours while clutching a tyre to check on his parents in a village near Qinzhou after his father failed to return from securing harvested rice, SCMP Economy said. Xie was accompanied by a friend.
