Lalamove and EY partner on low-altitude drone delivery in Greater Bay Area
The drones being used can lift up to 4.5 kg and are deployed under Hong Kong’s regulatory sandbox for low-altitude test flights.
Hong Kong delivery firm Lalamove and professional services group EY have partnered to support the development of the region’s low-altitude economy, aiming to expand their reach in the Greater Bay Area and reshape conventional business models, according to the South China Morning Post.
The collaboration plans to use equipment from Ningbo-based drone specialist Yixin Smart Technology, with the devices participating in a government regulatory sandbox for low-altitude test flights. The drones are designed to carry packages up to 4.5 kg and fly distances of 12 km to 18 km.
Lalamove and EY said their services would cover areas including planning, business modelling, risk advisory, governance, and tax and customs advisory, drawing on Lalamove’s logistics platform. The initiative is one of 38 pilot projects approved under the sandbox scheme, with the government having received 72 applications for the program so far.
In comments carried by SCMP, a Lalamove spokesman said its driver partners remain the irreplaceable backbone of the company’s operations.
