Amazon to close Florida facility, affecting about 494 workers
The PBI3 shutdown in Port St. Lucie starts Sept. 17, with separations also scheduled for Dec. 17 for affected employees.
Amazon plans to shut down its PBI3 facility in Port St. Lucie, Florida, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice reviewed by TheStreet.
The closure, effective Sept. 17, is expected to affect approximately 494 employees. The notice lists 466 employees in the FC Associate I role, with additional impacts for other job categories at the site.
Amazon said the separations are permanent, but workers who accept another position within the company before the scheduled termination dates will not be laid off due to the closure. The company also said affected workers will receive information about benefits and, where applicable, severance.
The Port St. Lucie closure follows Amazon’s earlier decision to shut down its TMB8 facility in Homestead, Florida, which ended operations July 2. That prior shutdown affected about 616 workers, and together the two actions total roughly 1,110 employees in Florida.
