France orders ISPs to block Polymarket after earlier transaction ban
France said Polymarket traffic from French IP addresses kept rising, reaching 578,751 visits last month, despite the prior ban on French account money transfers.
France has escalated its crackdown on the online prediction market Polymarket by ordering internet service providers to block access to the site in France, according to Forexlive.
The French gaming authority, ANJ, said the site would be inaccessible on French territory, moving beyond an earlier November 2024 measure that barred French accounts from sending money to the platform.
ANJ said traffic to Polymarket from French internet addresses continued to climb even after the transaction restrictions, reaching 578,751 visits last month, which it cited as evidence users were finding ways around the rules.
The regulator also linked the tougher enforcement to wider integrity concerns around prediction markets, including an apparent hacking incident involving a French weather probe, and noted advertising for an unauthorized gambling site is a criminal offense in France with fines that can reach €100,000.
