Coinbase CEO warns followers not to treat his X posts as token signals
Armstrong said Coinbase and the Base team will not promote specific coins, citing compliance and regulatory limits on listings and declining to pump projects.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong pushed back on a memecoin trading frenzy tied to his recent X profile and avatar changes, telling followers they should not treat his personal account as investment advice or token signals.
In posts on X on Monday, Armstrong said his messages and profile pictures are not endorsements or commitments to any token or project, adding that he may not even know whether specific coins are connected to the content he shares.
Armstrong said traders should recognize the risk of treating his account as a source of edge, and he said he would never recommend that approach.
He also said Coinbase will not promote specific coins, noting it wants to list many tokens but cannot for compliance and regulatory reasons, and that neither he nor Base creator Jesse Pollak will shill or pump tokens. The clarification follows similar market moves in the past when a token linked to Armstrong's profile picture reportedly crashed after an avatar change.
