Goldman economist warns inflation may be broadening out
Kevin Warsh told lawmakers that preventing temporary price spikes from spreading remains a key Fed priority, but Goldman views the overall inflation trend as widening.
MarketWatch reports that during Congressional testimony last week, new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said one of his primary responsibilities is to make sure individual price spikes, which have appeared frequently in recent years, do not broaden out.
According to the report, the Goldman economist delivering the warning said the bad news is that, on the whole, inflation appears to be broadening out rather than staying confined to isolated categories.
