Hyperliquid to let external builders create prediction markets via HIP-4
The HIP-4 plan would require each deployer to stake 500,000 HYPE, about $31.7 million at Monday’s token price, before markets can be added.
Hyperliquid said it is planning an upgrade, HIP-4, that would allow external operators to create prediction markets on its blockchain, aiming to broaden beyond the limited set of event contracts validators can publish today. The move is positioned as a way to compete more directly with Polymarket by widening market creation while putting deployers at financial risk.
Under the proposal, each prediction-market deployer would need to stake 500,000 HYPE, worth about $31.7 million at Monday’s token price, according to CryptoSlate. Hyperliquid said the system would roll out first on testnet before moving to the main network, and it would give deployers control over which questions they list and how markets are settled.
Hyperliquid would keep authority for the broader rules, including standardized templates deployers must use, plus penalties for markets that are unclear, improperly resolved, or left unsettled. The platform also said the markets would be integrated into HyperCore, using the same account for trading event outcomes as for spot assets and perpetual futures.
The contracts would be fully collateralized and settle to 0 or 1 based on whether the specified event occurs, with no leverage, which would cap a trader’s maximum loss to the amount paid for a position. CryptoSlate reported this structure is intended to let outcome markets operate alongside Hyperliquid’s higher-risk derivatives without triggering liquidations or margin calls.
