Patrick Witt defers military training as the CLARITY Act heads to the Senate

Witt said the training was deferred, keeping the White House’s lead crypto negotiator in place as the Senate votes on the bill before the Aug. 8 recess.

Cointelegraph reports that White House top crypto adviser Patrick Witt will defer his scheduled military training, allowing him to remain at the White House to help advance the CLARITY Act in the Senate. Witt said he was previously expected to start mandatory training on July 27 as part of his service with the Georgia Army National Guard, which would qualify him to serve as a legal officer in the Guard. In an X post, he said his training has been deferred and that he will be able to see the CLARITY Act effort through to the end.

The CLARITY Act would create what the report describes as the first comprehensive US regulatory framework for the crypto market. The bill faces a make or break deadline to pass the Senate before the Aug. 8 recess, according to Cointelegraph. Cointelegraph also notes this is the second time Witt has deferred his training, citing a prior deferral in April to stay at the White House for negotiations that ran longer than expected. The update comes as Harry Jung, deputy director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, announced he will leave government service in two weeks.
