Telegram founder Durov announces a native non-custodial Gram wallet

Gram rose about 7% on the announcement, as Telegram plans to roll out the wallet across all app versions this summer.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov said a native, non-custodial Gram wallet is rolling out across all Telegram apps this summer, targeting more than 1 billion users with instant, zero-fee crypto transactions. Decrypt reports the wallet is intended to support Telegram's native crypto, Gram, formerly known as Toncoin.

The outlet says the non-custodial model would let users hold the keys to their own funds, with the design positioned to avoid freezing, seizure, or transaction blocking by others without user permission. Decrypt also contrasted the new plan with Telegram's existing @wallet bot, which runs partly in custodial mode and is operated by The Open Platform rather than Telegram itself.

Gram was described as jumping roughly 7% after the announcement. Decrypt added that Gram remains well below its highs, stating the token is 88% down from May levels.

Several details were left unannounced, including whether the new wallet replaces or coexists with @wallet, which assets it will support beyond Gram, and how key management will work at scale for users new to crypto, according to Decrypt.
