U.S. DOE sets up Nuclear Fuel Cycle Consortium under Defense Production Act

The U.S. Department of Energy has approved a voluntary agreement that establishes the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Consortium under the Defense Production Act, according to an article carried by Yahoo Finance.
The framework formalizes coordination across the nuclear value chain, including roles beyond mining and enrichment, such as component suppliers, construction and site services firms, reactor developers, and utilities. It creates Plans of Action aimed at strengthening fuel-cycle steps from mining through recycling, and it explicitly includes committees with scope for utilities and reactors.
The consortium structure includes antitrust protections for participants to develop and share information as they plan their actions. The agreement was published in the Federal Register on July 6 after a public meeting and comment period, with coordination involving the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.
The initiative is designed to support U.S. efforts to reinvigorate the nuclear industrial base and respond to a national energy emergency, the outlet said. Major participants named include Solstice Advanced Materials, Mirion Technologies, and Amentum.
