S&P 500 and Nasdaq edge lower as chip stocks slip, Big Tech earnings loom

The Dow rose 0.1% while the S&P 500 fell 0.2% and the Nasdaq dropped 0.6% at the open.

U.S. stocks drifted lower on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq retreating as chip stocks declined and investors looked ahead to the first wave of Big Tech earnings.

At the open, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 62.5 points, or 0.1%, to 52,287.14. The S&P 500 fell 11.7 points, or 0.2%, to 7,497.47, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 143.5 points, or 0.6%, to 25,693.719.

LiveMint Markets said the broader pullback was tied to weakness in chip-related shares, while major earnings from large technology companies are expected to set the near-term tone for markets.
