Willis Re launches Global Life Reinsurance Practice led by Christian Howells

The new practice is positioned as a global advisory and broking offering spanning mortality, morbidity, longevity, and pension risk transfer solutions.

Willis Re has launched a Global Life Reinsurance Practice, naming Christian Howells as Head of Life Reinsurance. The reinsurance advisory and broking joint venture between Bain Capital (BCIS) and WTW said the practice is designed to provide independent life reinsurance advisory and broking services worldwide to life insurers, reinsurers, and pension and annuity providers.

Willis Re said the unit is a strategic collaboration with WTW’s Insurance Consulting and Technology business, which it described as providing analytical and consultancy resources. The practice will support services across mortality, morbidity, longevity, and pension risk transfer solutions.

Howells will lead the new practice after recently joining Willis Re from Macquarie Asset Management, where he served as Head of International Insurance Solutions. Before that, he spent more than 16 years at Schroders, holding senior leadership roles for global insurance clients, including leading insurance solutions initiatives across the Asia Pacific region.

In a statement, Willis Re said life insurers are operating amid capital pressures, regulatory change, longevity risk, and accelerating product innovation, and that the new practice is built to support clients beyond individual transactions. The firm also said WTW’s Insurance Consulting and Technology team brings actuarial expertise and analytical capability, and cited its insurance consulting and technology communications reach.
