Mirae Asset completes Korbit takeover, becomes largest shareholder

The deal closed after regulatory procedures, with Mirae paying 133.48 billion won, or about $91 million, for a 92.06% stake.

Mirae Asset Consulting has completed its acquisition of a controlling stake in South Korean crypto exchange Korbit, making Mirae the exchange’s largest shareholder, according to Cointelegraph.

Korbit said its operating entity will remain unchanged and that trading, deposits, and withdrawals will continue without interruption after closing.

The exchange also said customer assets remain segregated under South Korea’s Virtual Asset User Protection Act.

Cointelegraph adds that Mirae agreed in February to buy a 92.06% stake for 133.48 billion won, or about $91 million, with the transaction subject to regulatory approvals before it closed.
