Apollo names David Burke class lead for product recall underwriting

Burke joins from Hiscox, where he led the product recall unit for about a decade and became a partner in 2021.

Apollo, a Skyward Group company, has appointed David Burke as class lead for its product recall business, a move aimed at strengthening the underwriting strategy and expanding the product recall offering beyond its existing automotive recall operation.

Burke will shape the underwriting approach for Apollo’s product recall portfolio and support the line’s continued development, including efforts to broaden into additional recall sectors.

Apollo said the appointment reinforces its focus on investing in experienced specialist underwriting talent. The company noted that it was ranked second in Gracechurch’s 2026 London’s Leading Underwriters Report, citing its underwriting knowledge and service quality among brokers.

Apollo’s Chief Underwriting Officer James Slaughter said Burke’s experience covers complex recall risks and should help expand into other profitable niches, while the head of specialty at Apollo added that exceptional underwriting talent is central to the firm’s ability to serve broker clients with speed, precision, and continued underwriting discipline.
