Crypto groups urge Senate to advance CLARITY Act before August recess
The groups asked Senate leaders to bring the Digital Asset Market Clarity bill for floor consideration as lawmakers debate ethics provisions tied to 2026 elections.
Crypto advocacy groups are pressing US Senate leaders to prioritize floor consideration of the Digital Asset Market Clarity, or CLARITY, Act before lawmakers break for state work periods in August, according to Cointelegraph.
The Crypto Council for Innovation, Digital Chamber, and the Blockchain Association said in a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that the window for action before the 2026 elections is closing. The groups noted the bill has advanced through the Senate banking and agriculture committees.
Cointelegraph reported that the bill is expected to be among the most significant pieces of legislation for the crypto industry, and would require 60 votes to pass in the Senate, where Republicans hold a 52 to 47 majority over Democrats.
The outlet said Republicans released the text of the market structure bill earlier this week, including ethics provisions that would bar public officials from issuing or sponsoring cryptocurrencies, but some Democrats have argued the measures are insufficient to prevent corruption.
