Intel shares fall after quarterly results as investors weigh tariffs
Intel stock dropped more than 3% despite reporting better-than-expected earnings and an upbeat outlook for the current quarter.
Tech stocks fell in early trading Friday after a sharp sell-off the prior day, as investors weighed new tariffs alongside Intel's latest quarterly results and a debate over China's open-source AI models, according to Yahoo Finance.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and AMD CEO Lisa Su defended open-source models created by Chinese startups, which let users customize software as an alternative to the proprietary models favored by US AI developers.
In tech earnings news, Intel shares fell more than 3% even after the company reported better-than-anticipated earnings and gave an upbeat outlook for the current quarter. Yahoo Finance noted Intel has gained 326% over the last 12 months.
Yahoo Finance also said AMD officially launched its Helios rackscale system, with Lisa Su calling the AI platform fully in production at the company's Advancing AI event in San Francisco. The system was described as a direct competitor to Nvidia's Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin-based NVL72 rackscale systems.
