Mirae Asset completes Korbit acquisition and rebrands it as Digital X

Mirae acquired Korbit with a 97.15% stake and said Digital X will be positioned as an ecosystem layer connecting real-world assets, security tokens, stablecoins, and traditional assets.

Mirae Asset has completed a 97.15% acquisition of South Korea’s crypto exchange Korbit and is rebranding the platform as Digital X, according to CoinDesk. The company said the name change reflects a broader plan beyond running another trading venue.

Mirae’s goal is to develop Digital X into an “intelligent investment platform” that links real-world assets, security tokens, stablecoins, traditional assets, and digital assets within a single ecosystem. The firm framed the approach as building infrastructure for the industry rather than directly trying to compete for trading volumes with existing South Korean exchange leaders.

CoinDesk reported that Mirae said Digital X will emphasize investor education and research, along with institutional-grade infrastructure. It also said it does not intend to overtake other exchanges, adding that Korbit currently holds less than 1% of South Korea’s domestic crypto market.

Mirae told CoinDesk it will apply strict compliance standards across areas including AML, KYC, and fraud detection as it expands the Digital X ecosystem.
